The marine environment between Simpsons Point and a rocky outcrop 500m to its west experiences high currents and reduced water clarity create an ecosystem whereby fragile invertebrate communities and delicate red algae usually confined to deeper waters grow. This in turn supports a diverse ecosystem with gardens of gorgonians, bryozoans, sponges, sea whips and soft-corals.
