A day walk through coastal heathland with views across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the mountains of Tasmania’s southern ranges, along the beautiful Butler’s Beach and returning through coastal forest with views across Great Taylor’s Bay.

Track details
The start of the loop track is signposted at the Jetty Beach Campground, and the best views are provided by walking in a clockwise direction. Follow the trail heading south-west through forests and then tending north into more open coastal heathland with views south across the D’Entrecasteaux Channel towards Southport and Recherche Bay, where French Explorer Bruni D’Entrecasteaux set up a camp, made a garden, carried out scientific research, and had peaceful meetings with the region’s Aboriginal people. Continue past the turnoff to the right on the shorter Luggaboine Circuit , instead following the trail left as it continues northward along the top of small coastal cliffs to Hopwood point, Hopwood Beach, the beautiful Butler’s Beach that sits across from Partridge Island (and is a great spot for a picnic or swim), and then heads south following the Peninsula’s Eastern Coast under coastal Eucalypt forest, back to Jetty Beach. Keep an eye out for snakes, particularly in Summer. Parts of the track are a little overgrown, and it is recommended you bring plenty of water, a hat, sunscreen and wear either gaiters or pants. The Labillardiere Peninsula is named after Julien Houtou de la Billardiere, the French botanist who visited this region with Bruni D’Entrecasteaux’s expedition

From Lunnawanna in South Bruny, drive south on Lighthouse Road (C629) for 16.7km before turning right onto Old Jetty Road. Drive 2.3km along Old Jetty Road until you reach the Jetty Beach Campground.
